Conveying the lived experience of historic structures to future generations is possible not only through architectural expertise but also through deep cultural intuition and knowledge of materials. In this interview, we welcomed Prof. Dr. Zeynep Ahunbay, an architect and academic who has undertaken the restoration of many significant buildings over the years and, at times, shaped the field through her consultancy work. As we traced the footprint of stone together, we discussed the balance between aesthetic and structural value, the impact of material choices on historic buildings, and current issues in contemporary conservation practice.
