Quarry Site

Milas Lilac Marble has been quarried since ancient times in the Kavaklıdere district of Muğla province. Today, the quarries which produce this stone remain in use.

Technical Specifications

Classified as ‘Marble,’ it is characterized by its homogenous blend of white and purple hues with lilac veins. This hard marble is suitable for both interior and exterior flooring, wall cladding, and on wet areas. Durable and visually appealing, it looks especially striking when polished.

Historical Importance

During the Roman era, Milas Lilac Marble was used in significant buildings, among them the 5th century Santa Sabina Church in Rome, which, at the entrance, features two columns made of this stone. A water basin (labrum) made of this stone is displayed in the Vatican Museum.*

In Istanbul, it was employed in Hagia Sophia and Topkapı Palace; most notably a square column made of this stone that can be found inside the Library of Ahmed III.
