A tender was held by the İzmir Governor’s Office in 2024 for the mosque, which was originally built as a small prayer hall in the İkiçeşmelik district in 1894. Following the tender, restoration work commenced on 31 March 2025. As part of the works carried out in accordance with the approved plans, the basement, which had been filled in at a later date, was cleared to reveal the original structure. The filled-in areas on the south-western side of the building were cleared and rebuilt.
As part of the restoration, reinforcement works on the mosque’s load-bearing walls were completed. Joint opening, plaster and stone cleaning, and finishing works were carried out on the walls. All wooden elements inside the mosque were renewed. Maintenance was carried out on the electrical and mechanical systems.
With the completion of the works, the Asmalı Mescit Mosque reopened for worship on 13 March, coinciding with the Friday prayer.
